After surviving Hurricane Irma, this 16-year-old created a programme that teaches students what schools didn't

After surviving Hurricane Irma as a child, 16-year-old Elise Raurell turned her experience into action by creating Storm Smart, a student-led hurricane preparedness programme. Developed as her Girl Scout Gold Award project, the initiative teaches children how to prepare for, stay safe during and recover after hurricanes through peer-to-peer learning. Having already reached nearly 500 students, Storm Smart aims to fill a critical gap in school education while empowering young people to protect themselves and their communities.

Inspired by mussels, this 12-year-old Florida student is competing for a $25,000 prize with her eco-friendly adhesive

Twelve-year-old Aaisha Asif, a sixth-grade student at Pine View School in Florida, has been named one of 10 finalists in the 2026 3M Young Scientist Challenge for developing a mussel-inspired adhesive. Her biomimicry-based project aims to reduce harmful VOCs by using natural proteins and iron-based crosslinkers to create an environmentally friendly alternative. Guided by a 3M scientist, she will refine her innovation before competing for the $25,000 grand prize in October.

MHT CET final merit list 2026: The Maharashtra State CET Cell will release the MHT CET final merit list 2026 today for BE and BTech admissions through CAP. The merit list has been prepared using MHT CET scores and Class 12 marks and will determine seat allotment along with candidates’ choices and seat availability.
