AI In Education: Don't fret about students using ChatGPT to cheat - AI is a bigger threat to educational equality

Despite fears of cheating, the author argues that artificial intelligence presents a more significant threat to equity in education. The OpenAI large language model (LLM), GPT-4, costs $20 per month, pushing learners and educational institutions into two camps: those with enough resources to enjoy the benefits of AI tools, and those without who get left behind. Additionally, AI tools perpetuate global dominance of English at the expense of other languages, particularly Indigenous ones. The author suggests that educators must modify their curricula, pedagogies, and assessments for the AI tools that will soon become ubiquitous.
